What’s the job?
We are seeking a highly motivated person with a committed personality for a position of Strain Engineer in our wet lab. You will perform wet lab activities in cell factory design and implementation projects, including strain and pathway design, DNA/strain construction, evaluation of strain performance, and pathway optimization and troubleshooting in E. coli and S. cerevisiae. Positions of different seniority levels available.
The successful candidate must have an M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Biological engineering, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology or a related discipline.
The candidate’s skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Excellent skills in Molecular Biology
Prior experience in strain engineering in E. coli and/or S. cerevisiae (experience with protein engineering tools is a plus)
Good knowledge of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology technologies (preferred)
Enthusiastic and innovative
Team player with strong interaction skills
Good communication capabilities (good knowledge of English language is a plus)
Ability to find creative solutions to new problems as they arise
Previous experience in running fermentations is a plus
Project / laboratory management experience will be considered for other positions
Interest in lab automation and use of liquid handling equipments (e.g. Opentrons, Hamilton) is a plus
You will work in close cooperation with the head of laboratory / head of development of the corresponding project and her/his duties involve the following:
Genetic design of strains to production and optimize target chemicals
Development of enzymes with higher catalytic performance
Implementation of strain engineering strategies to optimize production of target chemicals
Development of suitable cultivation conditions and analytical methods to assess the performance of the engineered strains
Present accurate project status to senior leadership, at both a summary and detailed level
Prepare technical documents used internally and externally to provide both summary and detailed technical information
Salary will be proposed considering the candidate experience. The selected candidate will be employed by the company and will be part of an interdisciplinary team of experts in computer science, artificial intelligence, bioinformatics, systems biology, molecular biology and bioprocess engineering.
